Inaugural Triangle Black Pride 2010

Shades of Pride has announced an inaugural black pride weekend for the Triangle, to be hosted at the Raleigh Marriott Crabtree Valley, Thursday, July 29, through Sunday, August 1, with events held at the hotel and at other venues throughout the region.

The mission is to celebrate and honor the diversity of the African-American LGBTQ community in the Triangle through events open to all.

Several workshops are already confirmed, and visitors are asked to stay tuned for updates on the planned welcome reception, expos and seminars, health screenings, pool party, Sunday jazz brunch and other celebratory activities.

Joe Goode Performance Group

Sponsored by North Carolina State University's (NCSU's) GLBT Center, Joe Goode's award-winning contemporary dance company presents Wonderboy, a search for love and belonging, created in collaboration with avant-garde puppeteer Basil Twist.

The program will include Joe Goode's legendary 12-minute solo, 29 Effeminate Gestures. Set to music by Erik Ian Walker, 29 Effeminate Gestures is an illuminating (and hilarious) look at stereotypes of masculinity, and is considered Goode's signature work.

Buy tickets now for this event, Tuesday, March 9, at 8pm in NCSU's Stewart Theatre.

HRC Carolinas Gala in Greater Raleigh

On Saturday, February 27, the Raleigh Convention Center will play host to the 15th Annual HRC Carolinas Dinner, an annual fund-raising event to benefit the Human Rights Campaign, America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality.

Make plans to attend now by purchasing tickets online and making reservations. The host hotel, Raleigh Marriott City Center, is offering a special rate. Also, for visitors hailing from Charlotte or Greensboro, HRC has partnered with North Carolina's Amtrak on gala train trips.

We look forward to welcoming you to Greater Raleigh in February!
